It’s hard to believe this now iconic Ullswater image is 30 years old. At that time I had recently left Blackpool College of Art and moved to London to establish myself as a freelance photographer. This image in the Lake District was shot using a 5”x4” film camera during one of many trips I took in order to build a portfolio of landscape work.
A few years later Ullswater was taken on by the publisher Art Group and began to sell well as a poster from the outset. Ullswater has gone on to become one of the world’s most reproduced posters selling around 3 million copies worldwide, the majority through Ikea.
As a testament to its success I was featured in a BBC documentary ‘The Art on Your Wall’ as part of a compilation of the most loved posters in the world.
Ullswater continues to sell through my publisher Image Conscious in the US.
